Cricks on the Move!

In October 2014 we bought a swoon-worthy house. With 4 bedrooms, a gourmet kitchen and a massive yard, we were pretty excited. We signed on the dotted line and held our breath for the home inspection. While waiting, I proudly sent photos of the shiny new place to our friends and family. Then the home inspection happened. It wasn't good. In fact, it was disastrous. The chimney was leaning away from the house. The basement was chronically wet and was furiously running 2 massive sump pumps without success. The entire thing needed to be rewired and only half of the windows were even functional. We had bought the Fergie Duhamel of houses, it only looked stellar because of all of the "make-up" slapped on it. At one point, our trustworthy home inspector pulled us aside and said "Guys, everything you like about this place was just done to make it look better, there's a lot of trouble here". Feeling like I'd been kicked in the guts by an angry mule, I left to get back to work and Tim stayed at the new place for the rest of the inspection. Well, I think the universe wanted to be damn sure we were listening to our home inspector because while Tim was standing in the basement it flooded around him. God must've been like "Ok, kids. Just in case you were STILL tempted to buy this dump, I'm sending a frigging flood." We thanked our home inspector, paid him, backed out of the sale and cried. Well, I cried. Tim was pretty relieved to have dodged a big, expensive bullet. Everyone swore that the house fell through for a reason. They promised us that it was because a better place was out there for us. Blah blah blah...I didn't believe them. People just say that kind of thing to lessen the sting. Over the next month or so, my house hatred grew. It's jut become so evident that a family of five literally can't fit in this kitchen, we're constantly bumping into each other.

Well, the communal "everything happens for a reason" mentality was bang-on! Way back in June 2014, we saw a house online but didn't even bother looking at it because we figured we'd never be able to come together on a price. They dropped their price and we booked a viewing and the rest is history, we are moving in this Saturday. It's no Fergie Duhamel, it is an honest to God Natalie Portman. No make-up needed, just really good bones and natural beauty. No top notch appliances to blind us from a soggy basement. No granite counters to distract us from a chimney that is up and leaving the house. Now, of course, this couldn't go off without a hitch of some kind. Our home inspection revealed a BIG, STINKY problem. The current septic system is limping and will very shortly give up and call it quits. This means that our gorgeous new yard will be dug up this spring and we will need to oversee the installation of a full new septic system. Granted, that's not ideal but it meant a price revision and a brand spanking new system that we could be sure was perfect. Now, the interior is a bit of a 1993 time capsule but it's nothing that some paint can't fix. The layout is sensational, the bedrooms are perfect and I've fallen asleep every night for weeks, thinking about that big yard with the creek running through it.  I'll post pictures of the house in it's current condition and as we redecorate, room by room, I'll update keep you updated. Looking forward to our new adventures in what I'm calling "Casa Crick on the Creek". Now, say that ten times fast!
